Offense explodes for 14 goals in home-opener against Trinidad State
DOUGLAS, Ariz. --- There was no shortage of offense on Saturday afternoon, when the Cochise Women's Soccer team exploded for 14 goals against the visiting Trinidad State College Trojans. The 2024 home-opener took place in front of a large crowd on-hand at the Douglas campus, as the Apaches cruised past the Trojans 14-0.
It took 13 minutes into the match for Cochise to score their first goal as sophomore Sabrina Amezcua began the slew of goals in the first half. Amezcua (3), Celiane Periera, Ebony Wright, and Mya Bowler (2) each had a goal in the first half giving the Apaches a 7-0 lead at halftime.
In the second half, Pereira scored two more, along with freshman Michelle Gomez who scored three to join Amezcua and Pereira as each earned themselves a hat trick on the day. Freshmen Kenia Gonzalez and Emely Tavarez also scored a goal in the second half to secure the 14-0 win.
The Apaches outshot Trinidad State 45-0, leaving goalkeepers Julia Vigorito and Mia Ramirez with a rather slow day in the box for Cochise. Citlaly Meza, Jocelyn Navarro, Maria Satizabal, Bowler, and Gonzalez each collected an assist.

Cochise Women's Soccer (3-1-1) will host Eastern Arizona College (4-0) on Saturday, September 7th at 3:00 PM for their first ACCAC conference game of the young season. Eastern Arizona is coming off of a 16-0 win over Trinidad State themselves, and have yet to allow a single goal in the first four matches of their season. There is no admission fee to the match and concessions will be available.
