Cochise defeats eac

Silas' monster 4th quarter enough to take down #17 Eastern Arizona

DOUGLAS, Ariz. — The Cochise Women's Basketball team was aiming to make it eight straight wins as they hosted the 17th-ranked Eastern Arizona Wednesday evening. The Apaches were coming off of a double-digit win over Southern Nevada, while EAC was coming off a lopsided win over Yavapai.

The first quarter started in the Monsters' favor as they secured an early 16-13 lead. The offense was tough to come by in the second quarter, with Eastern outscoring Cochise 8-7 and carrying a 24-20 lead into the break. Eastern maintained their lead by outscoring Cochise by five points in the third quarter. However, the Apaches flipped a switch in the 4th, outscoring Eastern by twelve points, largely thanks to Micayla Silas' 16-point performance in the quarter, which included a game-winning 3-pointer at the buzzer, leading to an Apaches 54-51 victory.

Sophomore Micayla Silas scored 20 points, shooting 3-3 from deep in the 4th. Sophomore Kaylynn Asberry contributed 11 points and 10 rebounds of her own. Sophomore Jessie Joaquim snagged an impressive 19 rebounds, while freshman Paule Nkwetchou Njoukwe added 4 steals.
