Grand slam caps off sweep of Arizona Christian JV

DOUGLAS, Ariz. --- The red-hot Apaches looked to continue their winning streak Saturday afternoon as they hosted Arizona Christian University JV.

Saturday, March 29th (Game 1, 7 innings): Cochise 9, ACU  3

Early on in the 1st inning, a pair of wild pitches and a balk allowed Sawyer Fech to score the first run in the game. T.J. Shaw singled in another run in to start the third. He was followed by a two-run triple from Kenneth Rhein and an RBI double from Andrugh Yee. Rhein got his second double of the game in the 6th, driving in Shaw. Mathis Nayral got the start for Cochise, going five innings with one run unearned, and eight strikeouts. Osvaldo Guzman closed out the final two innings.

Saturday, March 29th (Game 2, 5 innings): Cochise 10, ACU 0

Francisco Laya's RBI single in the 1st put Cochise ahead early on. The 3rd inning included a based-loaded walk of Laya and an RBI groundout from Rhein, to put the Apaches up 4-0. After once again loading the bases the next inning, Jorge Cardenas launched one over the left field wall for a grand slam, giving Cochise a nine-run lead. Kevin Blanco scored the team's final run after an error in foul territory from ACU. Ramses Guerra tossed a complete game shutout, adding in seven strikeouts.

Winners of thirteen straight games, the Apaches (36-8, 17-7) get back into conference play as they host Eastern Arizona College on April 4th at 2:00 p.m., followed by a doubleheader on April 5th, starting at 12:00 p.m., at Bo Hall Field in Douglas, Arizona.
