Cochise Women's Basketball sweeps through Aztec Holiday Classic
TUCSON, Ariz. --- The Cochise Women's Basketball team ended the 2024 portion of their schedule on a big note, as the Apaches swept through the Aztec Holiday Classic in Tucson for a perfect 3-0. Cochise was looking to gain back some momentum after having lost three in a row earlier in December.
Cochise defeated Pima College on the first night in a close back-and-forth contest 58-55. Kaylynn Asberry was the leading scorer for the Apaches on Saturday night, going 4 for 9 in field goals, scoring 16 points with four rebounds. Cochise went on to an 84-58 route of North Idaho College on Sunday evening in Tucson, led by sophomore Micayla Silas, who scored 21 points, followed by Michelle Nkolo, who collected a double-double, scoring 18 points with 13 rebounds.
On Monday evening, Cochise completed the sweep in the Holiday Classic with a 62-57 upset over Division II 8th-ranked Mesa Community College. Four quarters were not enough in this contest, as the Apaches and Thunderbirds went into overtime, with Cochise ultimately coming out on top, led by Asberry, who scored 27 points. Asberry also was a perfect 7 for 7 at the free-throw line.

Cochise Women's Basketball (8-6,1-2) will be back on the road Saturday afternoon as they head to Scottsdale Community College for a non-conference contest. Tip-off is scheduled for 2:00 pm.
