Women's Basketball drops second straight on the road to #16 EAC
THATCHER, Ariz. --- After suffering a heartbreaking final-second defeat in Mesa last week, the 23rd ranked Cochise Women's Basketball team was looking to quickly turn the page and begin conference play on a good note. The Apaches were visiting the Guitteau Gymnasium at Eastern Arizona for the first time since cutting the nets down as Region I Champions last Spring.
Eastern Arizona came into the 2024-25 season as heavy favorites to return back to the region title game as they welcomed Cochise as the #16 ranked team in Div. 1. Cochise jumped out to an early 13-10 lead after the first quarter, and headed into the locker rooms up 17-12 at halftime.
The Gila Monsters came out strong in the early parts of the second half outscoring the Apaches 17-11 to take the lead. Cochise and EAC were neck-and-neck until the final seconds of the game, but the Gila Monsters finished on top 53-48 to hand Cochise their second straight loss on the road.
Sophomore Karolina Padilla was the leading scorer for Cochise, scoring 16 points with two rebounds. Sophomore Kaylynn Asberry followed with 10 points and five assists.
