Cochise falls short to Eastern Arizona in critical conference matchup

DOUGLAS, Ariz. -- The second half of the regular season began this week as the Cochise Women's Soccer team hosted Eastern Arizona College, which began its inaugural season this Fall for Men's and Women's Soccer. The Apaches welcomed the Gila Monsters to Douglas once again as the match was a re-scheduled event from September 12th, which was called due to inclement weather.

Eastern Arizona wasted no time scoring in the first two minutes of the game giving the Gila Monsters an early lead. Cochise responded when Freshman Sabrina Amezcua scored her 14th goal of the season off of an assist from Paula Gonzalez. Kara Camp and Kylee Holt of Eastern Arizona took over scoring the next four goals making way for a 5-1 lead late in the second half. Amezcua answered with another goal with only minutes remaining in the match but was not enough as the Gila Monsters escaped with a 5-2 win over the Apaches.

Cochise outshot Eastern Arizona 13-11, however, EAC goalkeeper Ashley Zaragoza-Lopez managed to put up 9 saves to control the Apaches attacks on goal.

The loss put Cochise Women's Soccer in 6th place in the ACCAC and 4th in the NJCAA Region I, Division I race behind Arizona Western, Eastern Arizona, and Yavapai.
