Cochise beats South Mountain

Cochise scores early and often en route to a big conference win over South Mountain

PHOENIX, Ariz. -- The Cochise Women's Soccer team was on the road early Saturday morning for a 10:00 AM kickoff against the Cougars of South Mountain Community College. The match came after a lengthy break for the Apaches, as a home match last Tuesday against Eastern Arizona was called due to inclement weather. The gap between matches was not an issue for Cochise as they came away with a decisive 8-0 win over SMCC led by another multiple-goal day from Freshman Sabrina Amezcua and Sophomore Paula Gonzalez.

The scoring began only eight minutes into the game when Amezcua knocked one in off an assist from Sophomore Dayana Gonzalez, giving the Apaches an early lead. Cochise did not look back from there as Paula Gonzalez and Freshman Diana Montoya each put one in the net off of more assists from D. Gonzalez. Five more goals were scored in the second half off of nine shots as the Apaches pulled away with their third ACCAC win of the season.

Freshman Goalkeeper Mia Ramirez was in the box for Cochise for the first time this season and managed to save all three shots that came her way. Cochise outshot South Mountain 23-3.
