Cochise defeats Glendale

Apaches win second conference game edging Glendale 3-1 on the road

GLENDALE, Ariz. -- The Cochise College Women's Soccer team took to the road again for their second conference match of the season, as they defeated the Gauchos of Glendale Community College on Tuesday evening.

The Apaches struck first off of an early goal from Sophomore Sabrina Ramos-Camatta who was playing in just her second game of the season coming off of an injury. The opening goal came off of an assist from Tessa Vrolijk. Cochise padded their lead later in the first half when Freshman Sabrina Amezcua put one in the goal off an assist from Paula Gonzalez. It took only 30 seconds for Glendale to respond cutting the lead in half at 2-1 with just under fifteen minutes left in the first half. Amezcua, who continued her red-hot start to the regular season scored a second goal at the end of the half giving the Apaches a 3-1 lead at halftime. Neither team managed to score in the second half keeping the final score at 3-1 Cochise.

Cochise outshot Glendale 11-3 with Freshman Goalkeeper Alicia Garwood saving two, bailing the Apaches out of a potentially tough spot early in the match.

Head Coach Ricky Escalera while satisfied with the win Tuesday night, mentioned the page has to turn quickly as Cochise faces two of the top Division I opponents on the schedule back-to-back. Escalera added that some of the mistakes made during the Glendale match could easily affect them against a very talented and highly-rated Arizona Western team.
