Cochise defeats Trinidad State

Cochise Soccer opens up season cruising past Trinidad State

DOUGLAS, Ariz. -- In what was a wet and breezy start to the 2023 campaign for the Cochise Women's Soccer team, the weather was not a factor in a lopsided 6-1 win over the visiting Trinidad State Trojans. Head Coach Ricky Escalera enters his second full season as head coach of the Apaches carrying over five sophomores from the previous season and a slew of incoming freshmen, some of whom are expected to make an immediate impact. Key returners include Paula Gonzalez and Sabrina Ramos-Camatta who were both recognized with All-ACCAC and All-Region 1 honors last season. Both are expected to lead the Apaches in 2023, along with sophomores Julia Giuriatti, Florina Haro-Giron, Dayana Gonzalez, and Paula Roldan Delgado

Trinidad State College (Trinidad, CO) visited the Douglas campus yesterday afternoon for the finale of their Arizona-based tour including stops in Yuma, Phoenix, and Thatcher for matches with Arizona Western, Gateway, Paradise Valley, and Eastern Arizona.

It didn't take long for Cochise to get going as freshman Mikaela Winter knocked a goal in the first five minutes of play giving the Apaches an early lead. Trinidad State answered with a goal of their own in the fifteenth minute of the first half, but it was all Cochise from there. Sabrina Amezcua, Dayana Gonzalez, and Paula Gonzalez each contributed to the Cochise win with a goal, while sophomore Julia Giuriatti headed two into the net off of what seemed to be two identical corner kicks during the final minutes of the second half.

Cochise Soccer outshot Trinidad State 16-1 during the match, with the lone Trojan shot on goal making its way into the net.
