Ngnawo captures NJCAA All-American honors

DOUGLAS, Ariz. --- Cochise Women's Basketball sophomore forward/center Fortuna Ngnawo has been selected as an NJCAA Women's Basketball First Team All-American, to cap off an already historic career.  This is Ngnawo's second All-American selection, as she was awarded with second-team honors in 2023. Ngnawo finishes her Cochise Basketball career scoring over 1,000 career points and collecting over 700 career rebounds.

During the 2024 season, Ngnawo played in all 34 games and averaged 16.8 points and 11.4 rebounds per game with a 47.1 field goal percentage. Ngnawo finished fourth overall in the country with a total of 265 defensive rebounds, and 16th overall in offensive rebounds with 124.

Cochise College Women's Basketball Head Coach Misty Opat mentioned that being proud is an understatement. "Being selected First Team All-American is a big deal," Opat stated. "This kid has earned it on the court and in the classroom. We as coaches give kids opportunities every year, it's the great ones that grab that opportunity with both hands, work, and make themselves the best version of themselves that they can." Coach Opat expressed her thankfulness for Ngnawo, "Accolades like this don't just happen by showing up, you have to work. She did just that for two years and has left her legacy in the record books for Cochise College Women's Basketball."

The All-American forward/center will transfer to NCAA Division 1 Troy University in the Fall of 2024.
