Apaches Women's Hoops continue winning streak sweeping Yavapai on the road

PRESCOTT, Ariz. -- The Cochise College Women's Basketball team won their ninth and tenth straight contests as they swept through Prescott, AZ to take down the Yavapai College Roughriders on Friday and Saturday. The Apaches have won ten in a row and 11 of their last 13 games, dating back to early December.

Friday, January 26th: Cochise 82, Yavapai 62

On Friday evening, Cochise cruised to an 82-62 route of YCC led by sophomore forward Fortuna Ngnawo's 24-point, 11-rebound night. The Apaches jumped out to an early lead from the get-go, leading the Roughriders 30-12 after the first quarter. Yavapai attempted to claw back into the game after the half led by sophomore Kishyah Anderson, who matched Ngnawo's 24 points in the game. Ultimately, the Apaches pulled away with an 82-62 win. Freshman Michelle Nkolo was 4 for 11 scoring 11 points with 8 rebounds, Leamsi Acuna came off the bench to score 8 points with a rebound and an assist.

Saturday, January 27th: Cochise 80, Yavapai 58

The Apaches and Roughriders faced off again Saturday afternoon, this time Cochise was led by sophomore transfer Shaunice Reed who came off of the bench scoring a team-leading 18 points going 3 for 5 from 3-point land. Reed, who started the season with Cochise in late December, transferred from Paris Junior College in Texas in hopes of adding depth to the Apache bench which has suffered from two season-ending injuries. The sophomore transfer also collected two rebounds and a steal en route to an 80-58 Cochise tenth-straight win. Ngnawo followed with a double-double scoring 13 points with 10 rebounds, and sophomore Clara Gonzalez scored 11 points with two assists.
