Maeva delafortuna selected Second Team All American

Ngnawo earns NJCAA Second-Team All-American honors

DOUGLAS, Ariz. -- Cochise College Women's Basketball standout forward Maeva delaFortuna Ngnawo was selected as an NJCAA Women's Basketball Second-Team All-American yesterday after finishing in the top five in the nation in offensive rebounds (165). Ngnawo becomes the first Cochise Women's Basketball player to earn All-American honors since 2019 when Awa Keita was selected. 

Ngnawo finished the season averaging 13.3 points per game along with a 67.2 free throw pct. and averaged 9.8 rebounds per game. Ngnawo also led the ACCAC conference in rebounds per game and finished in the top five in the conference in blocks and points scored. 

The 2022-2023 Cochise Women's Basketball team was selected as an at-large bid for the NJCAA National Tournament in Lubbock, TX. The Apaches finished in the second round of the tournament falling short in a close contest with Wabash Valley College. In her final game, Ngnawo finished with 15 rebounds. She will be returning to Cochise College for her sophomore season in the Fall of 2023.

Head Coach Misty Opat stated, "I am so happy for Fortuna, this is a well-deserved honor, it is the icing on the cake after being named ACCAC Player of the Year as a Freshman! We are excited to have her back for her Sophomore campaign and we know the sky's the limit on her continued development."
