Big second-half offensive run moves Cochise Women's Basketball past Collins College to advance to second round

LUBBOCK, Texas -- The Cochise College Women's Basketball team used a strong offensive effort led by Freshman Alayna Contreras to move on to the second round of the NJCAA Women's Basketball tournament. The Apaches were down by four at halftime but outscored Collin College 19-7 in the third quarter to pull away for good and set a date with Wabash Valley College tomorrow evening. Alayna Contreras led all Apaches with 18 points finishing 8-15 and 2-6 from 3-point land. Andjela Bigovic was 4 for 7 scoring all of her 12 points beyond the arc. Maeva Ngnawo led Cochise with 13 rebounds. In total, the Apaches were a perfect 6 for 6 from the free throw line with Jessenia Lawson sinking four and Chana Paxixe putting in another two. 

The first-round win over 10-seed Collin College sets a date with 7-seed Wabash Valley College out of Mount Carmel, IL, who finished 30-1 in the regular season. The second-round matchup is tomorrow, March 23rd, tipoff is set for 9:00 PM EDT (6:00 PM MST).
