Ngnawo named NJCAA Women's Basketball Player of the Week

DOUGLAS, Ariz. -- Cochise Women's Basketball Freshman Maeva de LaFortuna Ngnawo was named NJCAA D1 Women's Basketball Player of the Week last week after a dominating performance in the Aztec Holiday Classic (Tucson). Each week the NJCAA awards one Player of the Week for each division, and Ngnawo was a no-doubter after putting up a combined 50 points and 37 rebounds in three games. All three games last week were played at Pima Community College in the annual Aztec Holiday Classic (12/29 vs. Whatcom, 12/30 vs. Howard, TX, 12/31 vs. Bismark State). Ngnawo had her best performance Friday night against Howard College scoring 19 point with 18 rebounds.

Ngnawo is currently 9th in the nation in offensive rebounds (64) in just 13 games, and is 7th overall in points per 40 minutes (46.6). The national player of the week currently has her team rolling with a 5-game winning streak averaging 12.5 PPG, 9.2 rebounds, and a 70.5% from the free-throw line.
