Cochise Women's Basketball wins fourth straight after sweeping through Thatcher tournament

THATCHER, Ariz.-- The Cochise Lady Apaches Women's Basketball (4-1) team earned its fourth consecutive win Saturday as they defeated Snow College, Eastern Wyoming, and Community Christian in Thatcher, Arizona over the weekend. On Thursday, November 10th, Cochise faced Snow College (Ephraim, UT) as the Lady Apaches jumped out to an early 17-6 lead to begin the game. Snow managed to shrink the deficit at halftime only trailing by 9, however, it was all Apaches in the second half led by Chana Paxixe who put up 16 points, and Maeva Ngnawo who scored 10 points with 11 rebounds. Cochise defeated Snow College 59-50.

On Friday, November 11th, Cochise took down Eastern Wyoming College (Torrington, WY) easily 82-57, led by Paxixe and Alayna Contreras, both scoring 17 points. Contreras is coming off of an injury that kept her off of the court the entire 2021 season, however, coaches are expecting her to be a key contributor to the Lady Apaches' offense this season. Deja Jones also had a productive afternoon, scoring 11 points with 6 rebounds and 3 steals. The Apaches trailed the Lancers 24-22 at the end of the first quarter but outscored Western Wyoming 60-33 to finish the game giving Cochise a convincing win.

On Saturday morning, the Lady Apaches won their fourth straight contest as they defeated Community Christian College (Redlands, CA) 72-39, this time led by Ngnawo's 16 points and 13 rebounds to give Cochise a lopsided win. The Apaches jumped on the Saints from the very beginning, starting with a 23-2 run to end the first quarter. Along with a high-powered offensive display, the Apache's strong defense managed to get a combined 18 steals and 18 defensive rebounds. Contreras contributed with 11 points, and Tatjana Tatar came off of the bench to put up 8 points and was 4-5 from the free-throw line.

Cochise Women's Basketball will be back on the court Tuesday, November 22nd for their home debut hosting Scottsdale Community College at 7:30 pm.
