Women's basketball victorious against a tough Pima team

After a string of unfortunate events, the Cochise College women's basketball team dressed six players to battle a well-coached Pima team. The group of six comprised all guards, but the lack of size did not affect the tremendous work ethic of the Douglas, Arizona team. The Apaches showed up and displayed an unwavering amount of fight and toughness to come out of the showdown with the 5-point win. The final score was Cochise College, 65, and Pima Community College, 60.

A total team effort ended with three Cochise players in double figures. Sophomore Tatjana Tatar led the pack with 21 points and six rebounds. Freshman Jessenia Lawson earned ACCAC's Player of the Week with 18 points and 15 rebounds. This was Lawson's second career double-double and the first time being selected as the conference's player of the week. Sophomore Corina Suarez Tudela also secured a double-digit point total with 15 points.

The Cochise College women's basketball team will face the Artichokes of Scottsdale Community College on Wednesday, Jan. 19, for the second time this season. The first time these two teams met, the Artichokes defeated the Apaches 84-74. Defending the three-point line will be one of the focuses for the Apaches as the Artichokes shot an impressive 50% from behind the arc when the teams competed earlier this season.
