Women's basketball seconds away from securing a win

Freshman Rose Fuentes got the Apaches on the scoreboard with a lay-up off an assist from Aja Phoumiphat. This bucket by Fuentes was the first of many as the freshman guard ended the game with a career-high 18 points, shooting 4-5 from beyond the arc. The game encompassed eight lead changes, with the Matadors leading by as many as 11 points in the third quarter. The Apaches chose to continue to fight, closed this gap, and took the lead for the last time in this game with a Corina Suarez Tudela three-pointer with 18.8 seconds left on the game clock. This huge shot led to a timeout and a ball advancing by the Matadors, who ended the game with a game-winning rebound and lay-in by Sophomore Ndiba.

Some notable Apache performances in the hard-fought battle are four out of the eight Apache participants scored in double figures: Aja Phoumiphat with 12 points; Corina Auarez Tudela with a season-high 17 points going 5-7 from the three-point line; Tatjana Tatar with 18 points going 4-7 from the three-point line and Rose Fuentes with 18 points going 4-5 from the three-point line. The Apaches netted a season-high 65% of their three-pointers and 45.9% of their field goals!

On Saturday, Dec. 4, the Apaches travel to Glendale, Ariz, to face the Gauchos of Glendale Community College at 2 p.m.
