Rodeo team closes out regular season schedule, Gregerson to head to Nationals in June

LAS CRUCES, NM -- The Cochise College Rodeo team was on the road Saturday, April 21st as they participated in their final rodeo event of the 2023 Spring season. The event was held at the New Mexico State Rodeo grounds in Las Cruces, NM with the long round taking place on Saturday and the short round taking place on Sunday, April 22nd. Cochise Sophomore Laynee Gregerson used her final rodeo to qualify for the 2023 College National Rodeo in Casper, WY this summer by finishing third overall in the NIRA (National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association) Grand Canyon Region in Goat Tying. Below are more results from the New Mexico State University Rodeo:

  • Macie Fowlie split 5th-8th place in the long round of the Goat Tying event with 7.0 seconds and finished with 3.7 seconds in the Breakaway Roping event
  • Taylar Smith finished in 7.4 seconds in the Goat Tying event during the long round 
  • Macie Fowlie finished in 3.2 seconds in the Breakaway Roping event in the short round, for a combined 6.9 seconds on two runs. Fowlie finished in second place in the short round and split second in the average
  • Taylar Smith placed fourth in the short round and finished 7th/8th in the average on two runs in the Goat Tying event
