Bio

Derek Lane enters his 6th season on the Apaches coaching staff. Previously during his time as the assistant coach, Lane helped lead the Apaches to 5 Region I championship games, winning in 2014, 2015, and 2021. During the 2020-2021 season, the Apache squad won the ACCAC Conference title outright. During the 2015-2016 season, the Apache squad were co-champions of the ACCAC.

While at Cochise, Lane has assisted Coach Carrillo in developing student-athletes to play at the 4-year level, helping 33 student-athletes sign after Cochise. Lane was a player for Coach Carrillo from 2009-2012, redshirting during the 2010-2011 season. The Apaches won the ACCAC conference in both the 2009-2010 and 2011-2012 seasons and beat Arizona Western during the 2010-2011 season for the Region I championship. As a player, Lane assisted in winning 73 games during his three years.

Lane played high school basketball at Buena High School in Sierra Vista, Arizona, where he was named as a second-team all-region selection his senior year in 2009. Lane graduated from Grand Canyon University in 2014 with a bachelor’s degree in Sports Management. He is pursuing a master’s degree in Leadership from Grand Canyon University.

Lane and his wife Cassandra have one child, Sienna, 9 months.
