Cochise uses strong second half defensive effort to outlast Eastern Arizona College 79-65

DOUGLAS, Ariz.-- Cochise used a very strong second-half defensive effort to pull away from the Eastern Arizona College Gila Monsters for a 79-65 ACCAC win in the Stronghold Gymnasium last night.

Cochise trailed for the whole first half until Riley Parker's 3-point buzzer-beater gave the Apaches a 34-33 halftime lead. Cochise led 56-52 with 10 minutes to go and was able to push the lead to double-digits down the stretch.

Cochise was led by Sophomore, Oscar Cluff, who tallied a double-double with 22 points and 11 rebounds.  Freshman, Riley Parker added 16 points and Freshman, Jalen Barbee chipped in 11 points in the win.

Cochise is now 20-2 overall and 14-0 in ACCAC play.

"Eastern Arizona came out with great energy on both ends of the floor to start the game.  Riley's end of half 3-point shot did give us a nice boost.  We did a better job of defensive rebounding in the second half and Oscar scored the ball very well at the rim."

The Apaches have now won 18 consecutive this season dating back to Nov. 20th. 2022. They have tied the school record set by the ACCAC Champion 2011-12 squad.  Cochise looks to break the record on Sat. Feb 4th vs. Pima CC

Cochise hosts ACCAC Rival Pima CC on Sat. Feb 4th in the Stronghold Gymnasium. Cochise will be honoring former Cochise All-American player and Former Assistant Coach Jay Collins who passed away this past July.
