Cochise defeats Mesa

Cochise goes on road and grabs 14th straight win by blasting Mesa CC 86-68

MESA, Ariz. — The Cochise College Apaches started out slowly, but really used a balanced scoring attack to defeat the home-standing Mesa CC T-birds 86-68 in Mesa last night.

Cochise was down 37-35 at the intermission but had very good ball movement to score the ball effectively in the second half. Cochise shot a whopping 68 percent from the floor in the second stanza. Cochise was led in scoring by Sophomore, Tyreese Watson who finished with 25 points while Oscar Cluff added 15 points on the win.  Freshman, Jalen Barbee had himself a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds.

Cochise is in sole possession of the top spot in the ACCAC and moves to 16-2 overall and 10-0 in ACCAC play.

In His Words…

Cochise Head Coach Jerry Carrillo

"Our guys really need to know and understand that due to being undefeated in ACCAC play, that we will be getting our opponent's best effort, especially in the first half. To Mesa's credit, they outplayed us in the first half, but we really did a much better job of executing offense in the second half as we shot 68 percent from the floor in the final 20 minutes."

Up Next….

The Apaches continue their 4-game road swing on Saturday, Jan. 21st with a 2 pm Tip-off versus Dan Nichols and the South Mountain Cougars, at South Mountain CC.
