Cochise men's and women's hoops sweep Scottsdale in conference home opener, will face Arizona Western Wednesday

DOUGLAS, Ariz.--  The Cochise College men's basketball team used a very strong performance from Sophomore Oscar Cluff to dismantle the visiting Scottsdale Community College Fighting Artichokes in their ACCAC conference opener. Scottsdale led 43 - 42 at halftime as the Artichokes led by as many as 16 points in the opening half, with head coach Jerry Carrillo using 4 time-outs in the first half.  Cochise came out strong in the second half and led 66-56 with 10 minutes left in the contest. Cochise was led by Sophomore Oscar Cluff who had a monster game with 28 points and 15 rebounds in the win. Sophomore wing, Tyreese Watson added 21 points while Freshman Jalen Barbee chipped in 17 points with three 3-point field goals on the night. Cochise is now 4-2 overall and 1-0 in ACCAC play in the young season.

In the women's matchup, the Apaches opened with an explosive start that was sparked by their effort on the defensive end. Ending the first half with a 21-point lead, Cochise walked into the locker room feeling great. Freshman Alayna Contreras and Maeva de la Fortuna Ngnawo were huge contributors in the first half with Contreras notching all 11 of her points in the half and Ngnawo with 13 of her 18 points in the half. After the half, the Apaches were met with a determined Scottsdale team that did not plan to go down without a fight. The Artichokes closed the gap some and, in the end, took a 15-point defeat. In the end, Freshmen Chana Paxixe and Maeva de la Fortuna Ngnawo led the Apaches to victory. Paxixe finished with an impressive 12 points, 11 rebounds, and 6 steals. Ngnawo finished with a stellar 18 points and 9 rebounds. The team's defensive performance can be noted by their overwhelming 24 steals. The Cochise women's basketball team is now 5-1 and 1-0 in ACCAC play.

The Cochise College men's and women's teams will host Arizona Western College on Wednesday, November 30th. Men's tip-off at 5:30 pm and women's at 7:30 pm.
