Cochise Baseball collects 20 hits to sweep Yavapai on the road

PRESCOTT, Ariz. --- The Cochise Baseball team was on the road on Tuesday needing every win they could get, as they visited the Yavapai College Roughriders for a doubleheader. Cochise is vying for the final spot in the Region 1 Division 1 playoffs in May and helped their cause by sweeping Yavapai at Roughrider Park.

Game 1: Cochise 9, Yavapai 2

Cochise scored early and often in Game 1 putting two runs in the second inning by a single from freshman Hadley Smith. Another base hit in the third inning from Kenneth Rhein extended the Apache lead to 3-0. Sophomores Pablo Garcia and Mathis Meurant led the way in the sixth inning as Garcia doubled and Meurant hit a solo home run to right field extending the lead to 7-1. Freshman Mathis Nayral started on the mound for Cochise. The righty completed the game allowing three hits and two runs over seven innings, striking out five and walking four. Offensively, the Apaches collected 10 hits led by Garcia and Smith who each had multiple hits.
