Three Apaches earn all conference

Three Apaches land All-Conference and All-Region honors

DOUGLAS, Ariz. -- The 2023 Cochise Baseball season came to an end Saturday when the Apaches split their final doubleheader with South Mountain at home. Three members of the Cochise Baseball team were selected and honored with postseason All-ACCAC and All-NJCAA Region I honors. Christian Olea (C), Evan Shaw (LHP), and Mathias LaCombe (RHP) were recognized by the head coaches of the ACCAC for their successes during the 2023 regular season.

 

Christian Olea, Catcher, 1st Team All-ACCAC, 2nd Team All-Region I

Sophomore Christian Olea joined the team as a Sophomore transfer from Eastern Arizona College and immediately made an impact on the Apache defense and lineup.  Olea finished the regular season with 41 hits in 105 at-bats good enough for a .390 batting average. Olea finished in the top five in the ACCAC in batting average and slugging percentage (.590). Defensively the Sophomore catcher led the conference in putouts with a total of 279, and finished in the top five in runners caught stealing with 11. 

 

Evan Shaw, Lefthanded Pitcher, 1st Team All-ACCAC, 1st Team All-Region I

Sophomore Evan Shaw made 12 conference appearances this season starting in 9 earning three wins. Shaw finished 2nd overall in the ACCAC in strikeouts with 95 averaging 13.36 strikeouts per game (3rd). Shaw also finished in the top three in Earned Run Average (1.83). In the Fall, Shaw will be attending Kansas University to pitch for the Jayhawks. 

 

Mathias LaCombe, Righthanded Pitcher, 1st Team All-ACCAC, 1st Team All Region-I

Sophomore Mathias LaCombe made 15 conference appearances on the mound for the Apaches winning 5 of 8 starts. LaCombe finished third overall in the conference in strikeouts with 85 and finished in the top five in Earned Run Average at 1.88. LaCombe plans to attend the University of Louisiana at Lafayette in the Fall and will pitch for the Rajun Cajuns.
