Cochise defeats Phoenix

Apaches sweep Phoenix College for 9th win in their last 10 games

DOUGLAS, Ariz. -- Cochise Baseball was back at Bo Hall Field Tuesday afternoon as they hosted Phoenix College for a doubleheader. The Apaches were coming off back-to-back wins over Scottsdale Community College on Saturday, while the Bears were coming off a pair of losses to the defending national champs in Central Arizona.

Game 1: Cochise 7, Phoenix 0

Marco Ozuna earned the start for Cochise in Game 1 and did not disappoint as the righty threw a complete game shutout leading the Apaches to a 7-0 victory. Ozuna allowed only four hits while striking out 11 and walking one. It took a big 5th inning for Cochise to secure the win scoring four runs led by a triple from Mathis Meurant and a single from Kieran Gaffney. Joel Lindahl and Pablo Garcia each collected a hit for Cochise, while Christian Olea went 2 for 3 with an RBI to lead the Apaches.

Game 2: Cochise 10, Phoenix (7 Innings)

Game 2 was all Cochise again as the 10-run rule went into effect after the 7th inning giving the Apaches their fourth straight win. Evan Shaw led Cochise on the mound and went all seven innings throwing a two-hit shutout. Shaw struck out 12 Bears and walked two. The Apaches struck early off of a fielders choice by Lindahl scoring Gerardo Hernandez in the first inning. That was followed by a big third inning when Cochise put up four runs lead by hits from Lindahl and Eduarny Martinez. Kieran Gaffney led the Apaches going 2 for 4 with 2 RBIs in Game 2.
