Cochise falls to Yavapai

Cochise falls twice to Yavapai College in double header

DOUGLAS, Ariz. -- Cochise Baseball was back on the field Saturday afternoon hosting Yavapai College for another conference double-header at Bo Hall Field. The Apaches were looking to bounce back after two close losses to Central Arizona earlier in the week. In Game 1 Saturday, Yavapai jumped on Cochise early in the first inning over starting pitcher Zak Elvy. Cochise surrendered six runs to the Roughriders off of four hits and one error in the game. Elvy went two and two-thirds innings, allowing three runs on two hits and striking out two. Alex Figueroa, Martin Miranda, and Eddie Villareal each made an appearance in relief for Cochise. Carlos Vega, Eduarny Martinez, Damian Garcia, and Gerardo Hernandez each collected one hit to lead Cochise. The Apaches fell to Yavapai 6-0.

In Game 2, Cochise managed to stay in it until the end, but Yavapai pulled away late in a 6-4 victory late Saturday afternoon. The game was wire-to-wire all the way to the ninth inning when YCC took the lead for good off of a single scoring one run and giving the Roughriders a 5-4 lead. Tyson Noel started on the mound for Cochise, lasting two innings, allowing four hits and two runs while striking out two. The lefty didn't allow a walk. Angel Ortiz, Mathias LaCombe, Samir Rojas, and Villareal each contributed in relief on the mound. Dylan Bradford led the Apaches with two hits in four at-bats. While Cochise managed to tie the game late in the 8th inning, it wasn't enough as the Roughriders struck right back and scored two in the top half of the 9th, securing a 6-4 win and a sweep over Cochise.

Cochise Baseball (9-6; 0-4) is back on the field this weekend hosting Arizona Christian University and Scottsdale Postgrad for double-headers on Friday, Feb. 24th, and Saturday, Feb. 25th.
