Cochise Baseball completes three-game sweep over Community Christian

DOUGLAS, Ariz. -- On Saturday, February 4th, the Cochise College Apaches baseball team completed a three-game sweep over visiting Community Christian College out of Redlands, California defeating the Saints 10-0. The Apaches outscored CCC 32-0 in the three-game series which began with a doubleheader on Friday afternoon. On Saturday afternoon, the Apaches were off to a quick start scoring a run in the first off of a fielder's choice ground out from Mathis Meurant. In the bottom half of the fifth, a large rally was led by triples from Eduarny Martinez and Keiran Gaffney, as well as a single by Meurant scoring five runs giving the Apaches a healthy lead over the Saints. Freshman Tyson Noel was on the mound and took the win for Cochise, the lefty allowed only one hit while striking out eight and walking one. In total, the Apaches had nine hits with Gaffney and Joel Lindahl each collecting multiple hits.

On Friday, February 3rd, Cochise took both games of the doubleheader defeating CCC 15-0 and 7-0 respectively. In game 1, the Apaches used only five innings to put together 15 runs off of 7 hits. Evan Shaw, Martin Miranda, and Samir Rojas each shared time on the mound managing to keep the Saints hitless throughout the entire game which was called in the fifth due to the 10-run rule.

In game 2 the story remained the same thanks to four runs in the second inning. Gaffney, Lindahl, Mason Wray, and Gerardo Hernandez each powered the big inning with RBIs giving starting pitcher Fernando Barreda a comfortable lead to work with. In total, the Apaches collected 10 hits with Gaffney, Lindahl, and Dylan Bradford each putting up multiple hits. 

The No.13 Cochise Baseball team (6-1) will host Utah State-Eastern for doubleheaders on Tuesday, Feb. 7th and Wednesday, Feb. 8th.
