Cochise baseball splits with Eastern in a doubleheader on the road

The Cochise College baseball team traveled to Thatcher, AZ, on Saturday, April 9, for a doubleheader against Eastern Arizona Community College. Sophomore RHP Treyjen Meza took the mound for the Apaches. Meza allowed six hits and two runs over six innings, striking out seven and earning the win. Mathias LaCombe threw one inning in relief out of the bullpen to close the door on game one. Cochise cruised to an easy victory over Eastern 8-2 on Saturday.

The Apaches pulled away for good with two runs in the third inning. Cameron Crotte homered on a 0-1 count in the third, scoring two runs. Cochise tallied three runs in the sixth inning. Connor Caskenette, Crotte, and Dylan Bradford drove in runs during the inning.

The Apaches racked up nine hits on the day. Crotte and Caskenette both collected multiple hits for Cochise. Crotte led the Apaches with three hits in four at-bats.

Freshman LHP Evan Shaw was on the hill for Cochise. Shaw surrendered four runs on five hits over two and a third innings, striking out four and walking zero. Marco Ozuna and Martin Miranda entered the game as relief, throwing three innings and two and two-thirds innings. Ozuna kept eastern off the board, but Cochise couldn't rally back and score. Connor Caskenette went 2-for-4 at the plate to lead Apaches in hits. Cochise fell behind early and couldn't get anything going to make a comeback.

The Apaches finished with a split on the day and will be back in action at home against Central Arizona on Tuesday, April 12.
