Cochise baseball sweeps over PVCC

The Cochise College baseball team played a doubleheader against Paradise Valley on Saturday, April 2. Cochise handed the ball over to Treyjen Meza for a start. Meza allowed two hits and zero runs over seven innings, striking out eight and walking zero. Meza threw his first shutout victory of the season to lead the Apaches past Paradise Valley 5-0 on Saturday. Cochise got on the board in the fourth inning due to a passed ball that scored Gerardo Hernandez and then again in the fourth after Hernandez hit a sac fly. Cochise notched three runs in the sixth inning to extend the lead to five. Singles drove the big inning for Cochise baseball by Leo Melendez and Joel Lindahl. Lindahl went 2-for-2 at the plate to lead The Apaches in hits. 

 

In the second doubleheader game, Cochise held off Paradise Valley for a 6-4 victory on Saturday despite seeing its six-run lead whittled down by the end. Cochise got things moving in the first inning when Aaron Marsh drove in one run on a single. Cochise put up four runs in the third inning and got an impressive six to zero lead. The offensive onslaught came from a single by Connor Caskenette, a sacrifice fly by Austin Gurney, and a double by Aaron Marsh. Freshman RHP Evan Shaw was on the pitcher's mound for the Apaches. 

 

Shaw went five innings, allowing two runs on three hits and striking out eight. The Apaches racked up eight hits in the game.  Marsh and Dylan Bradford both managed multiple hits for Cochise. Marsh led the way and went 3-for-3 at the plate to lead Apaches in hits. Cochise extended their record to 17-0 at home and 32-10 overall. This Tuesday, April 5, the Apaches travel to Mesa Community College for a doubleheader.
