Cochise sweeps Scottsdale

Cochise baseball played a doubleheader at the home field on March 29, hosting Scottsdale Community College. Sophomore RHP Treyjen Meza got the start for the Apaches. Meza allowed three hits and runs over five and two-thirds innings, striking out ten and walking one. The Apaches opened up scoring in the second inning when Makai Desoto drove in one with an RBI single. Desoto stayed hot throughout the game and hit a no-doubt home run in the bottom of the fifth inning. Cochise scattered 12 hits in the game.  Leo Melendez, Desoto, and Cameron Crotte managed multiple hits for Apaches. Desoto and Melendez led the way as they managed three hits apiece to lead the Apaches. Cochise cruised to an 11-3 victory in game one. 

 

In the second game of the doubleheader, Cochise turned the ball over to Freshman LHP Evan Shaw. Shaw went five and a third innings, allowing one run on three hits, striking out four and walking one. Cochise had everything working in game two, winning big over Scottsdale 12-4. Cochise wasted no time and got things moving in the first inning, scoring one run when Aaron Marsh singled. After taking the lead early and having a 4-1 lead going into the bottom of the fifth, sophomore first basemen Cameron Crotte hit a solo shot making it 5-1. Cochise hit two home runs in game two. Crotte in the fifth, and Eduarny Martinez hit a moon shot earlier in the game in the third inning. 

 

Cochise put the game away when they tallied five runs in the seventh inning.  Cochise batters contributing to the big inning included Cameron Crotte, Dylan Bradford, and Alan Ochoa, who had RBIs in the inning. Bradford exploded the game open with a base clearing triple in the right-center gap. Cochise was hit at the plate all day and collected 11 hits in game two.

 

Marsh, Martinez, and Crotte all had multiple hits for the Apaches. Marsh went 3-for-5 at the plate to lead Apaches in hits. On Wednesday, Cochise gets back to action against Phoenix College in Phoenix, AZ.
