Cochise baseball wins all over the weekend

The Cochise College baseball team blew out Frasier Valley 23-1 in a single nine-inning game on Friday, March 18. Evan Shaw got the start for Cochise. The lefthander allowed two hits and one run over three and two-thirds innings, striking out seven. The Apaches got on the board in the first inning when Eduarny Martinez singled on a 1-2 count, scoring two runs. Cochise put up seven runs in the eighth inning. Leo Melendez and Austin Gurney led the Apaches' big bats in the inning. An error on a ball was put in play by Makai Desoto and a double by Connor Caskenette. Cochise launched two home runs on the day. Aaron Marsh went bug fly in the sixth inning and Caskenette in the fourth inning. Cochise tallied 13 hits in the game. Caskenette, Martinez, Cameron Crotte, and Marsh collected multiple hits for the Apaches. Caskenette led the team with four hits in six at-bats. Cochise stole seven bases during the game. Two players stole more than one. Dylan Bradford led the way with two SBs. Cochise didn't commit a single error on the field and played a clean game on Friday resulting in a 23-1 victory. 

 

On Saturday, March 19 the Cochise College baseball team traveled to Tucson to play a doubleheader. In game one of the doubleheader, Cochise played Bismarck State College. Sophomore RHP Treyjen Meza toed the rubber for the Apaches in game one. Meza surrendered one run on five hits over five innings, striking out 11. Both teams were strong on the mound Saturday, but Cochise defeated Bismarck State College 3-1. The pitchers for Cochise College allowed just seven hits to Bismarck State College. Cochise baseball pulled away for good with one run in the fourth inning. In the fourth, Cameron Crotte grounded out, scoring one run. Aaron Marsh, Makai Desoto, Eduarny Martinez, Alan Ochoa, Damian Garcia, and Leo Melendez each collected one hit to lead the Apaches to victory. 

 

Cochise baseball faced off with Dickinson State in game two of the doubleheader. Freshman RHP Martin Miranda got the start for Cochise. Miranda allowed one hit and run over four innings, striking out four and walking zero. Cochise took an early lead in the second inning when Austin Gurney drove in one with a single. Cochise tallied one home run on the day. Alan Ochoa had a homer in the third inning. The Apaches led the game 3-1, but a two-run single in the top of the fifth tied the game at three. Cochise would pull away batting in the bottom of the fifth when Leo Melendez grounded out, scoring one run. The Apaches would add to their lead by scoring three runs in the sixth inning. The offensive onslaught came from a single by Melendez, Anthony Martinez, and a groundout by Eduarny Martinez. Austin Gurney led the Apaches with two hits in two at-bats.  The Apaches were sure-handed in the field and didn't commit a single error in game two. Cochise gets back in action against Chandler-Gilbert CC in Phoenix.
