Cochise baseball drops two on the road against AZ Western

The Cochise College baseball team traveled to Yuma, AZ, for a doubleheader against Arizona Western College on March 1. Sophomore RHP Treyjen Meza got the start and led things off on the mound for the Apaches. Meza surrendered seven runs on nine hits over four and two-thirds innings, striking out six and walking one.

Ismail Pontiac threw one and one-third innings in relief out of the bullpen and held AWC off the board. Cochise went down early after the Matadors pushed across two in the first inning and another pair in the bottom of the second. The Apaches tried getting back in the game with a three-spot in the fourth inning on a two-run double by Eduarny Martinez but never closed the gap resulting in a 7-4 loss in the first game.

In game two of the doubleheader, Freshman RHP Fernando Barreda started the game for the Apaches. The righty went six innings, allowing two runs on two hits and striking out six. Angel Ortiz and Marco Ozuna entered the game from the bullpen, throwing one inning each. Ozuna struck out two of the three batters he faced.

Cochise baseball lost the game 4-1 despite out-hitting Arizona Western six to four.

This Saturday, March 5, Cochise baseball will be back in action against South Mountain CC in a doubleheader on the home field. Game time is noon at Cochise College Douglas Campus.
