Cochise baseball sweep #14 ranked College of Southern Nevada

The Cochise College baseball team traveled to Las Vegas, Nevada, for a three-game series against the College of Southern Nevada on Feb. 24.

Sophomore RHP Treyjen Meza was on the mound for Apaches in game one. The right-hander allowed one hit and zero runs over two innings, striking out four and walking one. Both teams were strong on the pitcher's mound Friday, but the Apaches defeated College of Southern NV 3-2. The pitching staff was nailed throughout the seven-inning affair and allowed just five hits to CSN. In the second inning, Cochise opened up the scoring when an error scored one run for Apaches. Sophomore outfielder Gerardo Hernandez led the Apaches offense with two hits in four at-bats.

In game two of the doubleheader, Cochise turned the ball over to Sophomore RHP Jose Velazquez to start the game. Velazquez went five and a third innings, allowing three runs on five hits and striking out six. Sophomore RHP Angel Ortiz relived Velazquez on the mound and closed the door with an inning and two-thirds work. Ortiz struck out four while walking one and allowing just one hit to collect the Apaches' save. Cochise got things moving in the first inning when Eduarny Martinez singled on a 1-0 count, scoring one run. Apaches tallied 12 hits in the game. Connor Caskenette, Gerardo Hernandez, Alan Ochoa, Martinez, and Cameron Crotte had multiple Apaches hits. Caskenette led Apaches with three hits in four at-bats. Apaches took home a 5-3 victory over College of Southern NV to complete the sweep on the day.

After sweeping the day on Friday, Cochise looked to keep the momentum rolling in a single game on Saturday, Feb. 26. Freshman RHP Martin Miranda was on the hill for Apaches and turned in a great outing leading to the victory. Miranda went five innings, allowing one run on four hits, striking out seven and walking zero. Sophomore LHP Ismail Pontiac came into the game for Miranda and shined in two innings of work to close the game out. Pontiac struck out three and allowed just one run on one hit. The left-hander pounded the zone and kept CSN from getting back into the game. Cochise got on the board In the first inning with three runs. Eduarny Martinez drove in one on a single to get the scoring underway.

The Apache lineup put up five runs in the fourth inning. Cameron Crotte and Makai Desoto led Cochise's offense, sending runners across the plate with RBIs in the inning. DeSoto extended the lead to ten with a grand slam over the left-field wall. Apaches tallied ten hits. Cameron Crotte, Gerardo Hernandez, and Connor Caskenette managed multiple hits for Cochise. Crotte went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead the Apache offense in hits. Hernandez led Apaches with two stolen bases, as they ran wild on the base paths with six stolen bases. The Cochise defense was sure-handed all game and didn't commit a single error. Apaches had everything working on Saturday, winning big over the College of Southern Nevada 12-2.
