Apaches score three goals in the second half to edge past Mohave at home
DOUGLAS, Ariz. --- The Cochise Women's Soccer team was back at home after a 0-0 draw at Eastern Arizona earlier in the week. The Apaches hosted Mohave Community College, from Bullhead City, AZ on Saturday afternoon. The Bighorns were searching for their second win of their inaugural season, and had Cochise on edge as they scored quickly in the first half taking an early 1-0 lead.
Cochise responded shortly before halftime when sophomore Celiane Pereira found the back of the net off of an assist from Darienne Thompson. The Apaches and Bighorns were knotted-up at one at the halfway mark.
The second half of the match was dominated by Cochise, who took control offensively and kept the pressure on MCC. Thompson scored a goal of her own in the 55th minute off of an assist from sophomore transfer Citlaly Meza, giving the Apaches a 2-1 lead. Cochise added some cushion to their lead when Sabrina Amezcua scored her 17th goal of the season and was followed shortly after by Abigail Pursley, who sealed the 4-1 win over Mohave.
