Cochise falls to Scottsdale College

Apaches fall short late to Scottsdale despite overcoming 20-point deficit

DOUGLAS, Ariz. --- Cochise Women's Basketball came back to the Stronghold Gymnasium on Wednesday evening having swept Central Arizona College last weekend and looking to build momentum heading into the final stretch of conference play. Scottsdale College jumped out to an early lead over Cochise with a 25-8 lead after the first quarter, and a 38-18 lead at the halfway mark. The Apaches hadn't trailed a team all season by 20 or more until last night when the Fighting Artichokes arrived at Douglas with a chip on their shoulder.

Cochise came out strong in the third quarter outscoring SCC 27-9 to erase the deficit and head into a fourth quarter which was a back-and-forth affair. Some last-minute mistakes by Cochise allowed Scottsdale to pull away with the 64-60 win. Sophomore Fortuna Ngnawo, however, extended her double-double streak to 13, as she scored 20 points and collected 14 rebounds for the Apaches. Ngnawo was also awarded her sixth ACCAC Player of the Week honors for her performance at CAC last weekend. Sophomore Clara Gonzalez was 6 for 17 from the floor scoring 13 points with 4 rebounds.
