Cochise Women's Basketball wins sixth and seventh straight over the weekend against Central Arizona

DOUGLAS, Ariz. --- Cochise Women's Basketball kept their winning streak intact over the weekend as the Apaches defeated visiting Central Arizona College for their sixth and seventh wins in a row. 

 

Friday, January 12th: Cochise 67, Central Arizona 58

Cochise and Central AZ met Friday evening at Stronghold Gymnasium in what was a historic game for All-American sophomore forward Fortuna Ngnawo. The Apaches and Vaqueras were neck-and-neck Friday evening until Cochise pulled away in the 4th quarter led by Ngnawo and sophomore center Alexis Reese. Ngnawo finished the game with a double-double collecting 21 rebounds, 15 of which were on the defensive end. She also scored 18 points leading the Apaches, including an 8 for 15 night at the free-throw line. Reese followed scoring 11 points with eight rebounds. Clara Gonzalez finished Friday's game 4 for 11 scoring 9 points and three assists.

 

Saturday, January 13th: Cochise 70, Central Arizona 47

The Apaches and Vaqueras met again Saturday afternoon in Douglas as Cochise was aiming for their seventh win in a row. Cochise led Central AZ by only three heading into halftime, but a high-scoring 3rd quarter by Ngnawo put the Apaches far and away ahead of CAC to finish with a 70-47 win. Ngnawo finished the game 10 for 19 scoring a team-leading 23 points for Cochise, and collected 11 rebounds with one assist. Reese followed again scoring 10 points and 8 rebounds.

Cochise Women's Basketball (11-5,6-3) will take their seven-game winning streak on the road as they head to Glendale Community College (6-9,2-7) on Saturday, January 20th for a 2:00 pm scheduled tip-off.
