Cochise loses to Mesa

Cochise Women's Basketball falls short on the road in non-conference matchup with Mesa

MESA, Ariz. -- The Cochise College Women's Basketball team visited Mesa Community College on Friday evening, in a non-conference game that was added early in the offseason in an agreement by both head coaches. Both teams are members of the ACCAC conference, however, while the game counts towards their overall regular season record, it did not affect their conference record.

The Apaches visited Theo Heap Gymnasium in Mesa leading Mesa 15-13 after the first quarter. The Thunderbirds responded in the 2nd quarter scoring 18, giving themselves a 31-29 lead at the half. It was the 4th quarter where Mesa pulled away, scoring 23 points giving the Thunderbirds a 64-54 win over Cochise.

Sophomore Fortuna Ngnawo was the leading scorer for the Apaches, scoring 12 points with 12 rebounds and four steals. Sophomore Ameena Muhammad was 4 for 9 from the field scoring nine points.
