Apaches put on a defensive clinic to ride past Yavapai
Douglas, Ariz. — The Cochise Women's Basketball team returned to action at home Wednesday evening as they hosted the Yavapai College Roughriders. The Apaches were coming off of a tough loss last weekend at Arizona Western.
Cochise got out to a fast start in the 1st quarter, taking a commanding 18-5 lead. The 2nd quarter was more of the same, as the Apaches' lead grew to 22 points. The halftime lead was not satisfying enough for Cochise, as they put together their best quarter yet with 25 points, putting things out of reach with a 63-25 lead. A strong finish by the Apaches, led by Karolina Padilla scoring 9 of the team's 17 points in the quarter, led to an 80-35 finish.
Four Apaches were able to reach double figures, led by Padilla's 15 points and 5 steals. Micayla Silas and Michelle Nkolo added 14 and 13 points, respectively. Jessie Joaquim added another double-double to her season total, with a 10-point, 13-rebound performance.
