Apaches win big in season-opener against AZ Sol Post Grad
DOUGLAS, Ariz. --- The Cochise Men's Basketball team opened their 2024-2025 regular season hosting AZ Sol Post Grad from Tucson, AZ. The Apaches bring back only four returning sophomores from their previous roster, along with two sophomore transfers and seven freshmen. Sophomores Lewis Woosnam and Joshua Whiteside return to lead a team that fell short in the NJCAA Region 1 Championship in March to Eastern Arizona. Mark Clegg Jr. and Isaiah Smith began their third year at Cochise after each having a redshirt year. The Apaches also welcomed Ben Henderson (Ames, IA) and Alexandre Zambonetti (Annemasse, France) who transferred to Cochise as Sophomores.
The Apaches were off to a hot start on Friday evening leading AZ Sol 80-29 at halftime. Cochise was 5 for 11 from 3-point land in the first half, led by Isaiah Smith, who was 2 for 3.
Cochise never looked back as they ran away with a 146-51 win over AZ Sol to begin their season 1-0 as they head to Hobbs, NM this week. Woosnam and Smith led all scorers each with 20 points; newcomer Jackson Tumbridge, from Sunshine Coast, Australia, followed with 19 points. The Apaches also dominated on the board, collecting 54 rebounds led by freshman Chase Murray, who had seven.

Cochise Men's Basketball (1-0) will head to Hobbs, NM, for a three-day stretch in which they will face the University of the Southwest JV, Frank Phillips College, and New Mexico Junior College. The Apaches will take on the University of the Southwest JV on Thursday, November 7th, at 5:00 pm MST.
