Apaches stay red-hot, down Okotoks Dawgs twice

Douglas, Ariz. --- Cochise Baseball began their homestand Wednesday afternoon, as they hosted the Okotoks Dawgs Baseball Club (Canada) for a doubleheader. The Apaches now find themselves at #20 in recent NJCAA rankings, after their weekend series win over then ranked #2 College of Southern Nevada.

Wednesday, March 19th (Game 1, 7innings): Cochise 7, Okotoks 6

Cochise, down 3, used their half of the 3rd inning to plate five runs, highlighted by a two-run single from Tyson Owens, followed by a two-run double from Andrugh Yee. The Dawgs would then strike back with 3 runs in the next half-inning, regaining their lead. Cochise evened things out in the bottom of the 5th after an RBI single from Briggham Kokotailo. Owens then drove in the go-ahead run in the bottom of the 6th, giving Cochise their seventh run. Sotaro Ishida was stellar, earning the win out of the bullpen by providing three scoreless innings and striking out 6.

Wednesday, March 19th (Game 2, 7 innings): Cochise 6, Okotoks 2

Cochise was able to jump out to an early lead with a solo home run from Noah Allison in the bottom of the 2nd. In the following inning, Allison was able to receive some help from the defense, as a single cleared the bases and gave the Apaches a four-spot to take full control. Allison led the team with 3 RBIs, while Kokotailo was a perfect 3 for 3, bringing his hit total to five on the day. Osvaldo Guzman gave three scoreless innings on the mound as the starter, while Daniel Martins rounded out the final three, allowing only one run.

Cochise Baseball (27-8, 14-7) will remain at home as they get set for a three-game series against Community Christian College (3-24, 0-16) on March 21st for a doubleheader starting at 12:00 p.m. and the finale on March 22nd at 12:00 p.m. at Bo Hall Field in Douglas, Arizona.
