Cochise defeats CNW

Cochise Baseball finishes off the sweep of Colorado Northwestern

DOUGLAS, Ariz. --- Apaches wrapped up a four-game series with a doubleheader Wednesday afternoon, hosting the Colorado Northwestern Spartans. Cochise was able to take the first set of doubleheaders on Tuesday afternoon, and looked to the very same again.

Wednesday, February 5th (Game 1, 7 innings): Cochise 12, Colorado Northwestern 7

The Apaches started off on the wrong foot on Wednesday afternoon. Colorado Northwestern chased Cochise starter Sam Pitts out of the game without recording an out, finishing the inning with a 4-0 lead. Down six early on, the Apaches rallied, tying the game in the second inning, thanks in part to six walks and a two-run single from Andrugh Yee. Yee added on in the 5th inning with a two-run home run. He was later followed by a two-run triple from Francisco Laya, which allowed Cochise to separate themselves making it a 12-7 game. Mathis Nayral worked a scoreless 4th and 5th inning out of the bullpen before handing it off to Sotaro Ishia, who closed out the final two innings.

Wednesday, February 5th (Game 2, 7 innings): Cochise 17, Colorado Northwestern 11

The fatigue really began to set in for both teams in game 2, as both struggled to find pitchers who could command the strike zone and limit damage. Another quick start for the Spartans was immediately responded to by Cochise, putting up nine in the bottom half. Cochise walked seven times in the inning and brought across two runs off a base hit from Tyson Owens. CNW began to slowly climb their way back into things, only trailing 10-9 going into the bottom of the 4th. A sacrifice-fly from T.J Shaw and a two-run single from Sawyer Fech, got Cochise back into action, extending the lead to four. Laya, Shaw, Fech, and H. Smith, all finished game 2 with three RBI's.
