Micayla Silas awarded NJCAA Third Team All-American

DOUGLAS, Ariz. --- Cochise Women's Basketball's outgoing sophomore, Micayla Silas was selected as an NJCAA Third Team All-American Wednesday afternoon by a national committee. The NJCAA released their first, second, and third team selections which totaled 30 student-athletes from across the country.

Silas, from Mesa, Arizona, completed her sophomore season starting in 29 of the Apaches 30 games averaging 14.7 points per game, with a field goal percentage of 34.2, and a three-point percentage of 28.8. Silas also had a free-throw percentage of 83.9, which was good enough for 14th in the country for Division I. Silas was named First Team All-ACCAC for the 2024-25 season, along with several selections as Conference Player of the Week.

Cochise Women's Basketball head coach Misty Opat wasn't shy to emphasize the deservedness of Silas' All-American selection. "Micayla is so deserving of this prestigious award which honors the best of the best at our level," Opat stated. "When you talk about a 'gym rat' that wants to be the best they can at their craft, that is Micayla."

Coach Opat went on to praise Micayla's work ethic off of the court. "[Micayla] was never satisfied and continued to work on her game day in and day out. Her game elevated multiple time over from her freshman season until now. Her approach to the game and the classroom are second to no one, she defines what it means to be a student-athlete."

Silas has yet to commit to a four-year program at the time of this release, however, according to Coach Opat, the sophomore has received multiple offers to play at the next level in the Fall of 2025.
