
Women's Rodeo Team captures region title; Six headed to CNFR finals next month
DOUGLAS, Ariz. --- For the second consecutive year, the Cochise College Women's Rodeo team secured the NIRA Grand Canyon Region Championship in their final performance of the season this weekend in Prescott. Due to limitations set by the NIRA, only four members of the team are able to represent at the College National Finals Rodeo in Casper, WY, next month. Murphy Gaasch, Sealey Bottom, Rilee Christensen, and Macie Fowlie will pack their bags to Casper next month in an attempt to bring another national championship to Cochise College.
Macie Fowlie also won an individual championship for the Grand Canyon Region in Goat Tying. Fowlie was also the Reserve Champion as the All-Around Cowgirl. Taten Erickson was awarded the Reserve Champion for both Steer Wrestling and All-Around Cowboy in the Grand Canyon Region. Newcomer Braulio Barraza will also represent the Cochise Men's Rodeo team as the Reserve Champion for Bull Riding. Each of the six members of the rodeo team will travel to Casper, WY next month for the CNFR which will take place on June 15-21 at the Ford Wyoming Center.
